McNamee to testify

Knoblauch, a four-time All-Star who also was named in the Mitchell Report, met with the committee last month and - like Pettitte - confirmed that he used performance-enhancers supplied by McNamee.Mr. Knoblauch and Mr. Pettitte answered all the Committee's questions, and their testimony at the hearing is not needed," Davis and committee chairman Henry Waxman said in a statement released Monday night.Radomski, who was sentenced last week to five years probation for his role in the distribution of steroids, initially was slated to meet with the committee on Tuesday. But Radomski may have avoided jail time because of his willingness to speak openly with federal prosecutors and former United States Senate majority leader George Mitchell.Clemens, 45, held one-on-one informal visits with several congressmen last Thursday while McNamee met with House lawyers for a sworn deposition.McNamee spoke at length in the wake of new evidence he has presented to fedral investigators - vials with traces of steroids and HGH along with as blood-stained syringes and gauze pads that may contain Clemens' DNA.

During a media conference with reporters later that day, Richard Emery, one of McNamee's lawyers, claimed his client had begun saving needles in 2001 because he had "an inkling and gut feeling that he couldn't trust Roger and needed to protect himself."

"If he was going to go under a bus, he was going to take Roger Clemens with him," said Earl Ward, who also represents McNamee.

Emery and Ward distributed pictures of the needles, some of which had been stored in a beer can to preserve them. They said the evidence had been kept in a FedEx box in McNamee's basement for the last seven years.

Emery and Ward said that the needles primarily relate to Clemens but may include some used to inject Knoblauch.

Ward called for Clemens to provide a sample of his DNA to federal investigators, saying, "Roger Clemens has put himself in a position where his legacy as a pitcher now depends less on his ERA and more on his DNA."
