batting the probleem

ayawardene, himself and his side have struggled with the bat right through the Commonwealth Bank tri-series with Kumar Sangakkara being the only one who has shown some fluency.

Chasing 185 to win at Melbourne, Sri Lanka were reduced to 77 for four in the 30th over before the heavens opened up. Play was not possible after that and the visitors lost the match by 23 runs according to the Duckworth/Lewis method."It was disappointing that the rain came; we planned things but losing wickets upfront did not help," Jayawardene told STAR Sports."Our guys bowled really well and we did manage to keep Australia down to the 180s," he added. He credited the two Michael's of stringing an important partnership when his side was looking for a crucial fifth wicket. "Hussey and Clarke played well; we were looking for the fifth wicket and they put on a decent partnership."Jayawardene admitted that the missed run outs also did not help their cause. The Lankan skipper said his and Sangakkara's wickets dealt vital blows to the chase. "Sangakkara and I thought we could push for a few more runs. Losing both the wickets was vital, we could not accelerate after that," he said. The middle order batsman said a win was sure to come by. "We have to make sure we win both the next two game," he said.
