Earlier, U19 World Cup winning captain Virat Kohli and his teammate Pradeep Sangwan were welcomed and received a warm round of applause.

Indian captain MS Dhoni also congratulated the U19 team and thanked his teammates for the great performance Down Under.

Earlier in the day, the team reached Mumbai and then landed in Delhi minus fielding coach Robin Singh who stayed back.

"It was a brilliant victory. Everyone played well and the youngsters performed well," Robin Singh told newsmen in Mumbai.

The team reached the Delhi airport and was whisked away from the Haj terminal as the regular arrival terminal was packed to the brim as music and chanting of "Chak De India" went louder and louder.

Those at the airport, who did not get a glimpse of their heroes, pursued them to the Intercontinental Hotel in central Delhi where they were accorded a red carpet welcome and the chief chef rolled out almost 100 dishes for the "Indian food craving" players.

The chief chef told various television channels that there were 30 dishes, 25 types of sweet dishes and 16 flavours of juices that had been laid out for the players. Apart from that, they had also baked a cake, which was a replica of the CB Series Trophy.

A live band played as the players disembarked from the bus and the waiting crowd called out the names of the emerging players with loud "oohs, aahs and yeahs".

The players after resting at the hotel for a while headed to the Ferozeshah Kotla where the felicitation ceremony took place.

The BCCI, however, cancelled the initial plan of a victory procession atop an open bus from the hotel to Kotla.
